No your current antenna is for FM/AM reception. They are short because of the wavelength their designed to receive. Shortwave (CB/VHF/UHF) antennas are much bigger because the waves they receive are much larger. Nothing keeping you from mounting one for looks, just remember car washes/tree limbs/ power lines/ garages doors and ceilings ect.
no it is most likely a cb radio like heymrdj stated. it is totaly seperate for the actual radio. the citizens band radio is what you see truckers use on tv like breaker 19. nice for traffic issues and accidents and see where the police are ...
you can spend $50 or a few hundred. cobra even has one with a bluetooth capability. you get what you pay for as with anything else. I want a cobra 29. it is a good radio and can be modified for higher output power for longer conversations and i think it can get upper and lower sidebands for more channels.
if it's cause it looks cool than get a uniden or cheap cobra from walmart and find a whip antenna you like and mount it in.
it may be hard to locate a lnong whip antenna. walmart most likely won't have it and radioshack has turned into a toy store. walmart does carry a magetic mount for the roof you could just toss on to see if this is a toy/noise you want to have in your truck. if it is then i would get the antenna you wnat and get the system tuned to lower the the vswr. this will improve you transmission distance. you may find some decent stuff at a larger truck shop or ty the yellow pages.
