I am thinking about putting a dana 60 front axle on my 4x4 lwb 1980 f150 (351c). It has a 6 inch lift and 33' boggers what donor trucks would have this axle, what modifications would I have to make, and where do I start? Thanks in advance! Ya'll are a great help!
85.5 and up f350's have this front axle. This is not going to be an easy swap into a f150. You will have to make custom leaf spring mounts and get rid of the coil springs on the f150.
And then it's going to be 8 lug in the front, and 5 lug f150 wheels in the rear. The best thing you can do is look for a f250 with a rough body, and put your f150 body on it.
IF you dont plan on running tires larger than your current 33's, swapping a solid D44 from a 78-79 F-150 would be a lot easier. It's already set up for coils.
i'm not sure what the cut off is, but once you get so "low" you need a new carrier.
I needed a new carrier for my 4.56's. I dont know if it's 3.73 or 4.10.
It will work, you may or may not need a new carrier.
