As some of you may remember from quite a while back I posted about taking a month off next summer and going to Alaska with my Dad and I was asking about what you would take and such. Anyway, we have been talking about this trip for a couple of years and last summer we finally decided we would do it this coming summer. We had talked about some of the places we wanted to go, how we were going to do it and I had started making mods to the trucking and gathering the things we might need. Well last Monday my Dad called me and said that as much as he hated to bring it it up he was just not sure he was up to making a 10,000 mile trip like that and being that remote. He was just concerned about he had been feeling drained lately and just did not have the energy to do that. He will be 70 here soon.
The basis of my title here is this guys and gals:::If you have any thoughts or ideas of doing something with one or both or your parents like this please find a way to come up with the time and money before they don't feel like they can do it. It is something I had REALLY wanted to do for a long time and kept finding reasons I could not do it. Now it does not look like it will ever happen. Kind of a big bummer.
Ted that is so very true. I cannot get my father to go anywhere either. I feel for ya. Maybe he just needs a check up to see if it is normal fatigue? Don't give up yet!
All kidding aside, I hear ya. My dad is 78. He's not one for a trip like that though, no way. He lives about 9 miles from the house he grew up in as a kid. Hopefully your dad will change his mind.
Ted, this may be best at his age. You wouldn't want to be in the middle of no where if something happens. Do something with him that he can handle, something close to home. Good luck.

We did talk today about taking a week and going somewhere in the lower 48 that he might want to go. It is better than nothing just not near the adventure.
I can relate. I lost my dear mother this past Wednesday morning.
My condolences to you and your family. Ted, a road trip of that magnatude can be rough for your dad, my mom is 65 and she'll go on a journey but not that far, find something closer and enjoy. I want to go on a National lampoon vacation with my family and i,m waiting for my youngest to get a year or two older so he can handle it, enjoy where ever you go..

Ted,
I lost my dad and son 23 years ago, there is nothing I would not do too spend another day with both of them again. After that day I do live my life as if it may be my last. My dad was my hero and will be always, so spend or do what ever it takes to have a good time your mom and dad...
