possible electric 4wd

Hey all,
Just a thought, My uncle looked at my electic 4wd motor and asked if it was a power window motor. I told him no. But the more I look at it, the more it looks like one, and I can see how it would work the same. Anybody care to confirm his suspicions?

Nope. The armature is very different even if the casing looks similar. The armature has more brushes which are supposed to allow it greater accuracy when it stops and starts. So rather than just two brushes it has four. Without getting into a lot of details and explanations, it makes for a motor that is supposedly less prone to dead spots.

(Personally, it could be a state-of-the-art digital stepper motor and I wouldn't trust it to work more than twice without screwing up).

Haha. Thanks for the clarification. I know that the transfercase motor has 2 brushes. Isn't the Armature inside the cylinder like black cover? If it is, is it possible to still put the one from the window motor in there.
I know that evetually I will have to break down and buy a motor, but I'm cheap and if I can get it to work then I will.
As far as changing it to manual shift I would rather not right now, but when I do get a different motor, if it is unreliable to me, then I will do the transfer. But I'm hard headed and want to find out for myself if it is not worth the trouble.

Do a search here and on fullsizebronco.com. There are easy fixes. Chances are you can fix it without buying a new motor.
I ended up fixing mine with a couple hours diagnosing, and a tiny bit of 5/16" fuel hose.
