i have a 87 f150 4x4 an it is all stock..it has 35in bfg a/t on it now with no lift or cutting an very minimal rubbing on radius arm but i want to lift it..i want to put a 6in lift but i was told you also have to put a trans drop bracket in so the driveshaft is not on so much of an angel..is this true? if so where do i get one?..an if anyone has any pics of a truck 87-91 with a 6in lift id love to see them..
thanks
put a 4 inch lift on it and you wont have to spend extra for the tranny drop brkts and then getcha a 2inch body lift and you have your six inches with all the other hassle.
I just used 1 x 2" steel square tubing, drilled out to match the tranny crossmember. And Sha-zam, a t-case drop. It was in a short wheel base dodge ramcharger, and worked perfect.
bodylifts aren't exactly cheap in alot of cases. i don't see anything wrong with like 2 or 3 inches. its when u get into like 6 inches that you start to get alot of leverage. you can also upgrade your bolts and get some more tourque on them to eliminate movement.
You wont need a drop bracket. If you buy a lift from say rancho, rough country, fabtech...etc they will provide something to change your pinion angle on your rear axle. Depending on the lift and how much it is decides on what is used, an angled block, a pinion shim, hell...on a 6" you may not even need anything.
I just picked up a 86 f150 with a 8" lift. It has angled blocks in the rear with a AAL. Only think when you go that big you have to get a new driveshaft made. But with a 6" you will be fine on the driveshaft.
its a 6ich lift made by rough country...im going to purchase it from ebay...it will be 570 dollars even not 500 sorry i didnt include shipping lol...its 4 inch blocks an add a leafs...an includes the steering stablizer..is rough country a good brand?..it seems to be the cheapest lol..its like 80 bucks cheaper on ebay than from rough country itself..but it includes everything to get 6inches of lift except the extended brake lines..i can fit 35's on my truck now how big do you think i can fit with the lift?
Rough Country is one of the cheapest, but a decent lift. $570 is about right, the one I bought for my bronco was rough country also. The blocks will take care of your pinion angle. They will be tapered, just make sure you put them on the right way. If i rememer right, I did not need to extended brake lines for mine.
I had a 6" suspension and a 3" Body lift and fit 36's comfortably. Still rubbed a little bit at a hard flex, and depending on how hard you play and what tires you buy, be prepared to break that front end eventually.....
