Hi all...can anyone give me a source for the plastic/nylon clips used to hold the tailgate release rods to the latch? I got some from Checker, but apparently they weren't the correct diameter and the pass side popped out again. For 74 F-250.
I find it's best to first push the rod lock clips in, and make sure they snap through on the other side. Make sure they spin freely in the tailgate handle, and that they can't rock back and forth. Next push the rod in, and then finally rotate the clip around until it snaps into place.

Also available in the HELP section at NAPA. These same clips were used in myriad applications, including the door latch rods on 1979/91 Crown Vics.
The tailgate rods used on 1964/72 Styleside pickups are not the same diameter as the rods used 1973/96, so the clips (which are obsolete) will not work.
Ok..Maybe I didn't get the clips pushed into the latch all the way, so I'll check that too. There sure isn't much room to work inside that small opening, is there? lol
Thanks too, Bill. I did call the local Ford dealer and they had the mid 80's ones in stock as well, but I wasn't sure that they would work on the older latch. Thanks again!
