Hi Folks,
As some of you may recall, I have plans for adapting the suspension and drive line from an Electronic all wheel drive '97 Aerostar to one of my '53s. The Aerostar has rear drum brakes. My question is, can disc brakes for something else like an Explorer for example be adapted to thw '97 Aerostar rear end? Basically I'm looking for a bolt on conversion that doesn't require changing axels or hubs. I am also asking this question on the Aerostar forum but it has been my experience in the past that the answer is more likely to come from this forum.
I don't think there's an aftermarket for Aerostars. However there are options for disc brakes on an 8.8 rear. 1994 and newer Mustang GT's had disc brakes with a 5x4.5" bolt pattern, you may try looking into that. Their axle shafts, and Aerostar passenger side axle shafts are common for 5 lug swaps on Fox bodies. Aerostar for drum brakes, and Stangs for Turbo Coupes with their disc brake rears. Maybe Lincoln Mark VII's as well.
Thanks Scott,
I'll look into the Mustang stuff but something tells me just having the word Mustang attached to it will raise the price even in junkyards.
i wouldnt think so dave , hades them dain 5.o's are everywhere around here , and can be had pretty cheap if ya watch . i got a buddy who's into 'em and he might know for sure bout them fitting yours . i'll try and look him up today and see if he knows .
