Ya - Dont take a chance on a 15.00 cord for your life- Plug truck in first then go in a plug in extension cord, if you do nothing else. Problem is if someone else gets near it . Got rocked by 230 volts standing in water 1 time and believe me you dont want to go there. Dont take much to get ya when your wet.
Yup that hurt's. I got tagged with 600V 3 phase, That threw me closeto 10'. Another time I was woking with an old timer and long story short he shorted out 2 phases to ground in a 480 V 3 phase panel that was backed up by a 1600 Amp main breaker. We both got burned and I lost my vision for a short time. The company made him "retire" after that. Don't mess with electricity it only takes 1/10 th of an amp through your heart to kill you.
Mines nowhere near as bad as you two, but i was like 6 or 7 and thought it would be a great idea to see if the electric fence at our house was working... with a tin can. My dad just watched and laughed his a$$ off at me.
i was 4 of 5 and i was at my grandmas and my uncle said to go pee on the electric fence that it was not on. well guess wat it was on. of course he laughed and thought it was funny has he!!

HOLY CRAP!!! Sorry but that IS funny!!! Hope you got your uncle back one day!
I've got one more suggestion to toss out there (for after you fix the short issue). Before you plug the truck in, blow out the end of the cord to remove any large amounts of water, then have the other end of the extension cord plugged in to a timer set to come on 2 hours before you plan on leaving. It will save on your electric bill, and a cord that has no power will not shock you when you plug it in.
when i was driving my truck every day to work i had it on a timer worked great, when i got to work i just pluged it in all day i wasn't paying the bill so i didn't care
i have been driving the ranger in my sig all winter and i drive to work all the time now
I too have been "hit" when plugging in the truck with the extension cord hot. Only when there was water on the truck plug, there is only so much you can do to dry it when it is snowing or raining. I checked the cord on the truck with an ohm meter and could find no shorts, I just attribute it to a wet plug. If it is wet out I try and plug in the extension last. Has not happened this year but then again we could use more snow for snowmobiling.
it dont sound like your cord is bad sounds like your plug on the truck is, go to your local hardware store and get a heavy duty plug mine did the EXACT same thing, your plug is probaly full of moisture and when you plug it in the moisture is a conductor of electricity....
Here's what my heater element looked like after shocking me (after tripping GFCI I found a non GFCI to plug it into - duhhh! its true, stupid hurts!) Here's the infamous Marinco mod in my aftermarket bumper. Best $15 I ever spent!!
