I have an 86 f150 that has a 82 f150 3006cyl and c-6.. i know should have gone fe and all but truck had no motor or trans or any computer components or wiring.. was pretty much plug and play 82 motor only has 29k on it... have good brakes but when running pedal will press almost to floor.. pump it and idle seems to pick up when they get firm if you hold the pedal it will slowly sink back to floor.. I cannot hear any sucking but cannot seem to figure this out.. any help will be appreciated.
thanks
If its a soft pedal, check for leaks. If no leaks then its a possible bad master cylinder.Try bleeding all the lines starting with the farthest from the master cylinder.
Have bled them and seem to be fine until you turn the truck over and its running is when you have to pump to get a firm pedal and then the idle comes up while pumping until pedal starts to fall
When you are pumping the pedal, you are using up the vacuum and the pedal is getting firm because of that. And the engine idling higher sounds like it's getting air from somewhere, which I would guess would be a booster problem.
What happens if you pull the vacuum line off the booster, and then try the brakes?
By the way, you did the right thing by not going with a FE engine. They are not a bolt in option.
thanks franklin.. have caught alot of crap on a few other places when
I was in the replacing engine stage as of people whining about switching to a carbed non-computer.. will check the vacuum issue later.. where is the hazzard flasher located... I have found the one for the turn signal but dont see the hazzard..?? working on trying to bring the truck up as It is a pretty clean unmolested rust free 86
thanks
