I'm new to the forum been doing alot of re search here thought i would finally ask my question and see what i get in return. i have a 2004 f250 6.0 wondering what programmer is best also if theres programmers that can be stacked or how that works. i have a 5in exhaust from the turbo back and a intake and have already blown the pipe off the turo i herd that was common on stock 6.0's. any information would be appriciated
most everyone around here will tell you the SCT Xcal3 with custom tunes is the way to go. with custom tuning you don't really need to stack tunes since they can be written to the way you want the engine to run and the tranny to shift. the only time i can see you needing to stack tunes is if you find out you like one persons engine tune and another persons tranny tune.
as for who writes the best tunes most would say that eric at innovative diesel is on the top of the list. there are a few others as well. he is known for having great tranny tunes. it seems like everyone has their little niche and areas they are known to excel at. you just need to read up on what everyone has to offer and decide for yourself what would suit you best.

As of right now, SCT with custom tunes. I would find the reputable dealers(tuners rather) and experiment between them as they all have their strong points and weak points. Stacking is a big no-no and it really doesn't work with the 6.0. They basically cancel each other out, unless you get products that are specifically designed to be stacked and you are able to tell them that other products are on there. Only certain Edge products that I know about do this, but Edge has a very bad reputation of not being able to tune the trans. So your taking a gamble on rather or not you'll have tranny problems. I personally wouldn't take the risk, but it's up to you.

You don't need the intake unless you start running more then just a tuner on 6.0s. Depending on what intake you got, it could have issues wtih those as well. 5" exhaust will also have you lose some low end power due to the fact that you aren't flowing enough fuel and air to warrant such an exhaust until you do more then just a tuner(same type of modifications that you would need to do to warrant an aftermarket intake).
I had a 2004 with an Edge installed--no intake or exhaust. It ran well, but I didn't get a chance to see any long-term effects because the truck went to Mexico without me three weeks after I added the Edge and a week after I added new shocks.
My replacement is an 05 and I installed an SCT with tunes from Spartan. The tunes really brought the engine and transmission to life. Last September I added a MBRP 4 inch turbo-back exhaust and Afe intake--didn't really need the intake, but it looks pretty cool under the hood. My thought was (and is) if you get more air out, you can also try to get more air in. I noticed my truck smokes less with the new intake compared to the stock and the turbo seems to spool faster--not sure it adds any HP, this could all be the exhaust.
