Ok so as some of you know I share my truck with my brother. He is absolutely **** about not taking curbs or heavy inclines saying that it kills your alignment. I'm talking about rolling up again a parking lot curb at 2mph, or when negotiating an area with a trailer I sometimes have to go through some deep ruts or up onto curbs. It's all low speed manuevering. So is it true? Or is it as I think that the front of the Expedition is a bit tougher than that.
that sounds a little strange... so is that to say that anytime you go off road you would need an alignment? Im pretty ****... i think your bro is SUPER ****.
I dont see how or why taking curbs or rocks or potholes at under 5mph would affect your alighment at all... if that were true people would need alingments everytime you changed your oil!
Yeah, I am with Mook here. If you're hitting a curb at 2 mph then you should be fine. I like to just kinda inch up to the curb, give 'er some gas and let it roll back, then give it enough gas to crawl the curb (so still about 1 mph)
The alignment on our Expedition was pretty solid and it was a 98. My buddy's 06 Tahoe on the other hand got knocked out of alignment on the highway at about 75-80. I drive my Tundra a lot of miles on the highway and knock on wood, I've never knocked it out. It just depends on how you hit it and at what angle whether or not it'll do damage.
I drive trhough deep ruts all the time where it flexes out my front and rear suspension as well as the frame at the same time. Never had a problem with front end alignment either
Hopefully this helps. And if it makes you feel better, my buddy hit a curb going about 10 mph in his Jeep on 35s and although it didn't tweak his alignment it messed up something else - think he bent a tie rod (he hit it that fast on purpose but wasn't expecting the damage)
OMG that is extreme. I take my 2000 off road quite often. In 137,000 miles I have only done 2 alignments... Once when I got ball joints and once when I got my new tires.
The alignment only goes out as parts wear or get damaged (bent). Other than that, all the front parts are locked in place and running up on a curb isn't going to change any of that. Hit a curb at 40-50 MPH and you'll throw it out, because at that speed it's likely you'll damage something, but not at 2 MPH.
I bought my truck at 50,000 miles. Lifted it almost right away and take it off road all the time. Everytime I park it I run into the curb. I dont know why I just do.
I have never had it aligned and it drives true. There is some play in my wheel. Its time to rework everything but as for the alignment its never been a problem
