I am having a custom exhaust made for my 2001 Ranger Edge (4x4, auto, 4.0 OHC). I'm getting the custom job instead of a standard Gibson Dual Sport Truck because I want the pipes to exit just ahead of the rear wheel on the passenger side. I have elected to go with a Gibson muffler for the setup, but I have some questions about the rest of the job. I'm hoping you all can give me your usual good advice.
1. Should I go with 2.5" or 3" pipes, and....
2. Depending on the above, will a single-pipe system going into a dual tip compromise my performance gains, or should I be looking to go true-dual from the git-go?
Most folks here seem to be happy with 2.5" pipes, but some folks prefer 3", and I certainly want to obtain optimal performance from the Gibson, without causing back-pressure problems.
I'm running a K&N filter with the stock air box, and envision adding an upgraded airflow system as soon as a choice of systems becomes available.
I think 3 inch exhaust is way too much for a 6 cylinder. 2.5 may be too much also. I have 2 1/4 on my V8 ranger and that does just fine. A dual tip is purely for looks and I don't think will compromise any type of performance gain. Unless you get a set of piston return springs.
People who say it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.
