Clutch Pedal Return Sping

When I disassembled my '49 F1, the clutch return spring was attahed to a piece of wire (approx. 10 gauge, 12" long which in turn was attached through a hole in the the cross member to the left frame. The spring appears to be the original. My Shop Manual does not show this assembly clearly. Had Rube Goldberg been working on this truck or is this the factory method for attaching the spring to the chassis?

If this wasn't original, how does the spring attach the cross member or frame?

OK this time I think what I told you last time about the brake spring is correct. It attaches to the pedal assemble in th esam egrove on th epin like the brake pedal and it does attach to the frame but not with a wire - bottom lip of left frame. The spring has a very long lead on the front end to get it clear of the frame.

That is what the picutre in the Operators Manual Shows (under clutch pedal adjustment)
