I have a '78 F250 4x4 Ranger Supercab, 400, 4spd, Dana 44/60 F&R, 4:10's, & 33's. I am swapping in a mildly built 460 & C6 auto in October. I have a couple question regarding what exhaust to use:
1. What size of exhaust is best? (2.5" or 3")
2. What muffler will get me that quiet low rumbling sound? You know, not too loud, yet not too quiet. (is this possible...........LOL?)
3. Exit out the rear on each side of the hitch, or out behind each rear tire?
2 1/2" should be OK. Use headers too. The best bet would be out the passenger side before the rear tire. Less bends this way. But, out the sides are better if you do a lot of towing.(less exhaust on the trailer) Out the back if you do a lot of drive thrus(noise in the speaker.. lol) Try to keep the bends down to a minimum especially if the shop uses a ram type bender. You could buy mandrel bent pieces from J.C. Whitney and weld them together. A H pipe or crossover pipe will add some torque.
