I am new here from what I have seen ya got a bunch of good guys on here. I havetried searching with no luck. I have an 88 f250 with a 460. My fuel pump will cut out after running for a bit. After a cool down period Ya can disconnect battery and reset comp and it will start and cut out just the same. Both relays are working. I can get the pump to pump by bypassing it as suggested in haynes manual. Oil and coolant levels are fine. Any suggestions?
I would check the wiring connectors at the relays for burnt/dirty contacts. I would also pull the error codes that are stored. Click on the "Tech Info" at the top of this forum page and then on OBD1 for instructions on how to pull the codes with just a paperclip.
Hopefully some of the EFI experts will chime in soon. Hope this helps.
I am trying to pull code but I am unable to find the sti plug. I foundthe ecc one, I cant even find a cut wire or something. Any hints?
That is the plug you need so that you can ground it and get the CEL to flash out the codes. Have a good look, if still no luck maybe one of the EFI experts will chime in or you might have to get an OBD1 code reader (about $30 I think). Post back on what you find.

Thanks,

so what you are saying is that if you bypass the fuel pump relay the truck stays running??
does the check stay on when key is in run? Or dim? If dim check the grounds at the battery, theres 2 wires that go to the ground on battery. If no check engine lite check the wiring at the eec and the fuelpump relays, mine has either a brown or green wire goin into the eec relay and it corroded causing it to die if i hit a good enough bump
found the STI buried under the cannister under fire wall bout an inch away had to remove cannister to find. The check engine light is on while running and stays on for a bit after engine dies and key is removed. Will pull codes sometime today and get back to yall. thanks all for the help.
