Code 41! cODE 41!

Hi I am getting a code 41 on my 88 F-150 5.0 L I have looked this up and it says HEGO. Sensor volt low, system lean. I assume this is the Oxygen Sensor that is throwing this code. My truck is awfully hard on fuel so would this be a good assumption? I know it could be a bunch of different things but would this be a good place to start?

Yes, according to my list system lean, oxygen sensor not switching.
I am no expert but I would be looking for a vacuum leak, including a leaking/stuck EGR valve. Also, if it was me, if the oxygen sensor has more than 60,000 miles on it I would replace it anyway. Just my thoughts. Hope this helps.

well I think the EGR is good as I had it apart and cleaned it. It works freely so I guess it is OK. I also put a new pipe from it around the rear of the engine. I also think there are no vacuum leaks as I have checked all the lines and replaced the "soup can" It will also store vacuum long after thew vehicle is shut off. I do not in fact know if it has ever been changed. I acquired the truck with a burnt valve so it;s past history is a mystery at this point. I should say there are only 144,000 Klm or 90,000 miles on the truck.

With engine at idle you could try spraying carb cleaner or ether around and listening for a change in note to be absolutely sure you do not have a vacuum leak. If not then I would have thought either clogged fuel filter or low fuel pressure or defective oxygen sensor.
I guess easiest to do is replace fuel filter (unless you know it has been replaced recently) which is a good idea anyway and replace the oxygen sensor, also probably a good idea anyway.

I have tried the carb cleaner trick also has a brand new fuel filter on it as well. The only thing in question may be injectors, but changing the O2 would be easier and cheaper as well.
