Finally Pulled the Trigger

It's been so long since I started this project, I finally got off high-center and ordered a set of Stage I Edlebrocks from Keith Craft racing this morning. I also ordered an RPM intake. I kept thinking, stupidly, that one day I would have enough money to do it all at once. So now I am officially putting together the parts I'm going to need. Next up, cam, lifters, and push rods.

Great job....You will be very happy with the port job from Kieth Craft. With all the trouble with solid lifter cams, I hope you buy a roller cam kit. The comp cams kit K33-782-9 is a good start. Things I ran into is to make sure your pistons have enough valve relief for the .674 lift. Also buy a good quality Roller rocker assembly. I am still waiting for ours. They are supposed to be finished this week.
Good luck on your build and keep us posted..

Are you building a 427 or 428 or 390?
Good valve sizes for the above are

427 2.25 intake 1.75 exhaust
428 2.19 intake 1.70 exhaust
On our two 428 engines our bore is now 4.17 so they will take a 2.19 intake and a 1.75 exhaust.

After thinking long and hard, I decided to go with a flat tappet cam. Keith is sending me 6 quarts of Joe Gibbs break in oil. I'm going with the Crane 343941 cam and Erson rockers. It'll be a while before it's done, but I'm headed that way
It's going to be a 390 .30 over with 209/166 valves.

I have heard that the Joe Gibbs break in oil is good stuff.
Sounds like it will be a very nice engine.

I think they will be a good combination. Hell, I'm feeling all giddy for a 62 year old codger.

Stage I They take some of your money.
Stage II They take more of your money.
Stage III They take all your money.

Mine our stage II, so I have a few pennies left.
