Disabling traction control

Hello All.
This is my first post. I have been doing research on half ton pickups for the last.. oh, year. I am liking what I am seeing!

I have seen it in other forums and newsgroups. There seems to be question about disabling the RSC on the 09 F150 so you don't "get stuck in a foot of snow while being passed by an open differentialed van."

Please turn in your hymna.... err users manuals (for those who have them, or those who don't link is at bottom). to page 277-279. At the bottom of pg 278 it explains that you CAN INDEED turn off the RSC but pusing the car with wavy skid mark lines on the dash above the radio. I was glad to read this because NOT being able to turn this off would be an instant deal breaker for me. My wife has an 07 Camry that has traction control. It snowed here in the Pac NW several weeks ago (over a foot!) and I had the hardest time getting her car out of our driveway and onto the bladed road. (I used several bed sheets under the tires to trick the traction control.. works great!). Please spread the word!

Yes, I went and looked at one todat just to make SURE you could shut off the TCS. My Fusion won't move in snow unless I turn it off. You have to shut it off in the snow, or your @ss isn't going ANYWHERE.

Don't dog my van...It's a FORD, and I can take her anywhere I want, open diff and all!! I can drive!!! I know that guy was humiliated when I blew by him sideways, with 4 ladders on top of it...lol

ChargersFanInCo.... Charger Fan here in Idaho. I went and looked at them today to try and figure it out too.

The TCS can be turned off. I bet that guy who got stuck felt pretty bad once he realized he didn't read the owners manual.

I have tried tired to disable the traction control on my truck. Even after holding the button in for 5 seconds, the truck will spin for a second in deep snow then go back to traction control.

yup... mine does that too. You push the button and the light comes on but the tc is still active. Not as much as not pushing the button though. Think of it this way... light off 100% tc... light on 50% tc.

I really do hate it personally but you can get through the deep stuff if you push the button and have it in 4wd. Wont even move in 2wd. My last truck didnt have it and it was much much better. I wonder how much better it would be with better tires?

We had 8" of snow a couple of weeks ago and I never touched the 4X4 switch. Bummer! My 04 F250 would have had to be in 4X4 mode!

I have 285x65x18 Nitto Terra Grapplers on my truck. I would imagine they dig better then the factory tires. I also have the electronic locker. I recently tried to climb a decent grade with about 11 inches of snow. Even after holding the TC button in for 5 seconds, the truck would dig..stop..dig...stop.. I eventually made it, but would have rather been able to just get to the top.

look into tuners. I know you can disable the TC on Mustangs with a tuner...stands to reason you can disable it on the F-150 as well

Shouldn't have to buy a tuner though....TC sounds like BS on the 09's.

Seems to me that ford had its head up its *** when it put that on a truck.

I and many people I know actually use our trucks as real trucks.

Sometimes the only way thru stuff is good tires and 4wheel drive.....then stand on the gas and let it chew down until it can find something to grip.

If the system will not allow this its going to be useless as a truck IMO.

If the system is on its own fuse, maybe just yank that fuse and toss it in the glovebox.

The TC is prolly a necessary evil of Fords much hoopla'd Trailer Sway Control.

They're engineering out all user control. Whatever happens We (Ford engineers) can't have people thinking they're smart enough to get out of the situation.

It might even be a liability issue. Now that the truck can handle 11500 lbs. (LMAO)
