rear axle rust

I was looking underneath my 2000 X and I've noticed that the rear axle is starting to rust. My stupid question is should I do something about it, like paint, or is it fine to leave?

You are jst now noticing that? The factory diff cover usually starts to flake pieces of metal due to corrosion, and you should climb under there to notice how many of the front end suspension and steering components that were not painted from the factory.
Also notice your drivehshafts.
Um, yeah, I would say that it would be a good idea to clean and paint the unprotected surfaces. It will not only help to prevent further rust, but it just looks nice....

I haven't been under my truck before. All my work I got done somewhere else, so I really had no need to go under the beast.
