How about this truck?
He claims it has a factory tilt bed.
I dont believe it would be factory.
Not a bad truck but a little on the high side for price. 1976 Ford F100 with Tilted Lift Box
Hmmm... I learned something here form Bill the ND about a DSO numbers
on the identification tag. Only learned if half way tho. :/
Check it out and see if the tag's got more than two numbers for a DSO. :)
If it has only two numbers, that's Ford's simple code for the district it was
purchased from. More numbers mean it was sent out by Ford to have it
modified. :)
DSO = "District/Special Order"codes
Way more information could be had about the subject through a search on
here, now that you know what to look for. ;) If it were me I'd look into it,
you don't know what you are going to find until you look. But study on it
here so you'll know what you're doing when the time comes?
The original purchaser could have requested the tilt bed, Ford would have then sent the truck out to an outside manufacturer to have this feature installed.
And sent out would be the only way it could be considered "original" because Ford never offered this feature on any truck.
If the DSO code is two digits, Ford had nothing to do with installing the tilt bed.
If the DSO code is 6 digits, that would mean the truck was a DOMESTIC SPECIAL ORDER, and the tilt bed might...just might...be the reason.
The DSO records have all been tossed away, so if the DSO code is indeed 6 digits, there's no way to prove that Ford had anything to do with installing this feature.
It might be that the selling dealer sent it out, if that was the case, the DSO will be two digits.
From what I know about Ford, my guess is the current owner is full of it, and he (or she) has either forgotten where it was installed, or isn't the actual original purchaser.
The Old Ploy:
Hustlers buy vehicles from the original owner, then when offering it for sale, claim it's a one owner.....because they do not register it in their name!
And..if this is the case, they usually make up stories about so called original features, or believe what the original owner (prolly someone in their 60's or older for this truck) told them.
There was a guy that lived by my grandparents that had a truck like this. It was a 78 or 79 though. I'm not going to say it was factory or not but he was the original owner and it had a dump bed on it. It was a f150 XLT, black and grey with all the chrome on it. Beautiful truck!! Dad tried to buy it 2 or 3 times and he would never sale even when he parked it out back and it set there for 5 plus years. Finally went by one day and the truck was gone and I have never seen it since. I did see it in action a few times and it would be nice to have a dump bed like that.
