Welcome to FTE buckstop. Could be several things. First, what kind of programmer do you have? Can it read codes? If so, scan it for codes and that may give us a hint. Auto or stick shift transmission? How cold is it outside where you're at?

Can the diablo pull codes? Do you have your parking brake set and let it idle for a couple of minutes to give it the chance to idle up? Have you changed to a different type of air intake on the truck by chance?

Not sure if diablo can pull codes yes the brake is set and plenty of time for idle for idle up no i have not changed the air intake I have taken the programer off and set the truck back to stock setting and the idle up still does not work when the truck is in the stock setting

Does your cruise work all the time? A code would help, but off the top of my head, any sensor on one of the pedals could cause this if they're acting up. The CPP (clutch pedal position) sensor is the most common pedal issue, and that will make the cruise control sometimes not work. Also the sensor on the e-brake. The IAT (intake air temp) sensor is the gray plastic thing that plugs into the side of the factory air box, the EPB (exhaust back pressure) sensor is on the front side of the motor. I don't know if a clogged tube will prevent the high idle, but the tube is probably clogged, so you can try this click me . The EOT (engine oil temp) sensor also plays a role in the high idle. Probably the BARO (barometric) sensor too, but that's internal to the PCM (computer) so skip that one.

The easiest thing to do would be to see if you can read codes with your programmer, or tell us where you're located to see if anyone close by has a scanner that can read diesel codes (the free scans at the auto parts stores don't work on our engines) Hopefully you've noticed problems with your cruise and I can just tell you how to check the CPP sensor.

Then let's cross our fingers and hope you get lucky with this. Otherwise, it's time to get it scanned.

The CPP sits on a metal rod that goes between the clutch pedal and the firewall. It's a black sensor with wires going to it. Unplug the wires, and it's held on by a U shaped retainer clip. The Clip runs the entire lenght of the sensor, so removing it is like removing one whole side. Pry on the clip gently so that you're opening up the U shape and that piece comes off.

Now remove the sensor and inspect the springs inside there. There should be 2 springs, one on each side of where the rod goes. Mine looked like this

You'll notice it looks like there are a few springs stacked together on each side instead of one long spring on each side. If yours looks anything like the one above, get a new one. You can find these at your local parts stores in the $35-$45 range.

Let me know if this fixes your problem. Also be sure to check out our 99-03 7.3 diesel section located a little further down the main forum listing. Lots of good info about these motors down there. Start reading some of the threads and you'll be amazed at the knowledge you can pick up. Don't be shy about jumping in on a thread and asking questions if you don't understand something.

Man, this is why I love this place. I read this just because I live in a cold area; I don't have a 7.3L or manual tranny, so I can't contribute. But to see the free sharing of info, etc, is just awesome.
