This is a 92 2wd F150 "Lightning clone" with the 17" wheels. But this truck sits as high as a 4wd. What could be the problem, do you think someone could have put 4wd suspension under it?
Long story short I need this thing a lot lowwer to the ground. I wonder if I purchase a lowering kit if it will drop it as low as advertised?
Or can anyone tell me where I can find the type of suspension that came with a real lightning?
What engine is in it now? I think that it might be wise to wait until you have the new engine in there because it will probably sit lower in the front after the transplant, then you can adjust things.
Your correct I should and will wait. I planned on doing the engine swap before I lower the truck just for the easy of work.
Right now the truck does not have a engine, it just seems high though. I just wonder if the last owner didn't install 4wd springs all around or something.
if it had 4X4 springs in the front with no engine, it would prob rip the front shocks in two. Lol. It prob just sits high in the front because of no engine and the back may have 4x4 springs.
i believe lightning's came lower from the factory, so your clone will sit like a stock f150, maybe a little higher with the bigger wheels. 2wd and 4wd f150's use the same front springs, and the only difference with the rears is the width.

Thank you,
Yes, I have noticed from looking at Ford brouchers that the Lightnings do appear to sit a good bit lower from the factory.
I doubt I keep the Lightning stickers on the truck. I'm not real big on the whole clone thing. But I do like the stance the factory Lightnings had.
Do you know how much the 92 F150 is suppose to weigh?
I'm not a Ford parts counter guy, but, I have been under a few of these trucks. I have a 94 lightning, the i-beams are tweaked a bit for the lowered stance they get from the 4x4 150 springs Ford chucked in there.Have you ever noticed the 4x4's sit just a tad higher than their lil brothers? The spring mount on the 4x's is over the spindle centerline, blah blah. It makes the spring shorter, I just did this to my unc's 88 and it looks like the L but the caster is a bit off. The rears are as near as I can tell, ranger pieces (the wt. rating is around 800 lb. on the Lightning) for better squat, and an attempt at a slapper bar bolted to the bottom of the pack. Just my part of the nickel tour, Rich
Oh, and keep the clone stickers. Do you have any Idea how hard it is to find those?!?!? If anybody gives you any heat, pop the hood and show them the big block.
The 2wd f 150s allways sets high in the back DJM & belltech make several lowering kits for the truck.... you can lower the back 4in with shackels & hangers or 5in with flip kit i dont recomend the flip kit on a rerformance truck....front 2in lower with springs...3in with i beams... With a 427 your going to need to do something with the rear end for traction...i use cal trac bars ... there adjustable so you can set your preload....like the truck nice !!!!
