OMG, I haven't worked on a 2150 since I can't remember..I had a '68 Mustang(stock), that had a 2150 carb-man was it easy to set one up..I could rebuild one in my sleep..I also had a '79 Lincoln Town Coupe, with the 400M, and it had a 2150 carb too..If it were me, I'd take off that 'puterized 2150, and get me a real 2150 carb, and then scour the bone yards looking for a late 70's brain box, so at least you can run the breakerless distributor, or just get an aftermarket distributor, breakerless or maybe a dual point set-up..Then you don't need any of that CRAP to run that engine..Get rid of the AIR system to, unless its hooked to the converter..What size engine is this??? Never had trouble with the choke on those carbs-always seemed to work well.....
When my 2150a EECIII carb started to go south on my 84 Ranger, I had to just wire the choke open and leave it until I rebuilt the motor and did the dura spark conversion. Those 2150a carbs are temperamental and I could never get any of the electronics to work properly after a certain age.............If you look around, you can do the duraspark dist. swap for about $180.00 then you can ditch that POS carb and put a good 2100 or 2150 non feedback carb on it. ...the truck never ran as well brand new as it does now with the overhaul and the dura spark ignition sys.
Why not just put an old hand control cable on it, then he can control the choke from inside the truck..should be able to pick one up at most auto parts stores..Had a couple of Holleys I ran that way, never had trouble starting them on cold days-man,the good old days..I'm guessing the heat spring for the choke has burned out, broken, or has sprung itself of its factory mounting position-I can't see why you can't find this in an auto parts store-not the chain stores, but a neighborhood parts store, or NAPA?? Is the choke getting power??-should be about 7 volts if I remember right..I take it that the choke cap is rivoted on??-Had one that was not 'puter controled, but the cap had rivots-drilled them out, "adjusted" the cap so the choke worked the way I wanted it to, and put some small screws in the holes to hold the metal flange that held the cap in place...
What I figured. This 2150 is almost as much fun as a VV carb!
Ill just have to tune it up a bit and leave it be as the owner wants me to cheeep it.
what brainbox and dizzy do you use for the duraspark conversion?
Duraspark II box and Distributor for any Ford prod. w/2.8 v6 74-81 (Mustang2 Capri, Pinto/Bobcat w/2.8 v6) And you dont have to go junkyarding, all the parts are avail. new from NAPA. You will also need a new coil for the above applications and make 1 wiring splice.....After this is done all that old emiss. crap can go bye bye!
When I did the Durapark conversion I used a GM HEI module, the wiring is simple and you can keep the stock coil Dirt cheap Ignition I replaced the feedback carb with a small Holley 2bbl I got off eBay but a 2150 would probably work just as well.
