Wheel well flares

I want to remove the stock gray wheel well flares and paint them black. I have a 2008 F350 4X. I loosened the hex head screws and the plastic screws, and they won't budge. Do they also use tape?

There are two common treatments to the top lip of flares. If there isn't a bead of split rubber around the edge, they most likely use tape to fill the gap.

You can pick up 3m double sided molding tape at most auto parts places, but if you need a long length, go to a paint/body store. I think it was about $50 for a 33yard roll and you had two options for thickness, 0.087" and 0.030".

To remove the tape, get some fishing line and use it as a saw. Keep it near the paint, it will not harm the paint and may save you some blisters.
