I don't get on here unless I have a problem or need info but here goes.
I have been a Ford guy since 87 and changed over my whole family from GM. I am the proud owner of a 93 E350 Diesel and a 99 F250 Diesel and a 08 F150 4X4 gas. I need a truck to pull a Fifth wheel motorhome and a catttle trailer. I looked @ the 09 F350 (dealer sells Dodge and Ford) and need to know what to buy. The guy told me my 99 F250 is better than any of the new Fords. He told/showed me that his lot is full of used Fords with the 6.0 and 6.4 engines. He told me all the ranchers are buying dodge trucks.
He also told me Ford is trying to make the old 7.3 work but it is hard to make it pass emissions testing.
What I need to know from you experts is what to buy that will last like my other Fords?
I love my 99 but want a new one.
He also told me everyone is looking for the 7.3's and buying them like wildfire.
there are plenty of guys in here with the 6.4 with a ton of mileage already...
sounds to me like the dealer is trying to sell you on a Dodge cuz he prolly has to much Dodge inventory...for what its worth i have heard of people with issues with the new Cummins engine in the new Dodge trucks...
A guy I work with said he read one of the articles about all the new 3/4 - 1 ton trucks in one of his mags. Me being the Ford guy that I am proposed that the Ford had to have been deemed the best in the class... He said the magazine claimed they liked the Dodge the best out of the new 09 Detroit trucks.
Dam guys, the salesman says keep my F 250 till it dies. I love her and if she died so would I!!!!! LOL!!!
ALL the trucks are 33-38$$$
Money is not the issue and one of my buddies said the GM was awesome.
If I bought a GM I would have to go to church just to repent my sins!!!!
A GM? Dam!
go ahead buy a ford be a smart shopper go down to the diesel fourm and see what you find out(you see what car maker didnt take the bailout) and buy the ford agin!!!!!p.s. dont give up that 99 thats like a savings bond.
Stay with Ford. Go to another dealer if this guy is pushing Dodge on you and that's not what you want. The Cummins is a good engine but I think the 5.9 was better than the 6.7. The Duramax isn't bad either. But the engine is only one part of the equation. The chassis and the rest of the powertrain have to be able to hold up as well. That's where I feel like Ford has everybody else trumped. There have been problems with all of the later model diesels regardless of manufacturer but when it comes down to transmission, axles, transmission, transfer cases, and chassis, It's hard (or dang near impossible) to beat a Ford. Look at the whole package and then make a decision. Check some of the GM and Dodge forums too and you'll see much more than engine troubles. I think everyone on here will agree that when it comes to our preference on Ford diesel engines, we all just agree to disagree. But when it comes to the truck as a whole, we all agree that Ford's just the best.
Ford is not trying to make the 7.3 work at all, it is old diesel tech that is no longer relevant in todays diesel world. My 6.0 is awesome and I'd take another 6.0 any day of the week, my dads 6.4 is miles ahead of my truck and if I could I'd have one of them any chance I had as well.
you name it i have had it in my time ford, dodge, and chevy. they are all good vehicles some have better features than others but i wouldnt take anything for my 6.0 it is a real work horse and i love the tow haul feature on the transmission. the super duty series of ford is a great truck inside and out.
You watch, ford will eventually take a bailout. Anyone but me notice that the list of "owned companies" has dropped in the past few months? Companies such as Land Rover and Jaguar? They are selling them off to stay afloat. It may not be happening now, but will be soon.
buy the ford, motor and the rest of the truck come in to play when making a purchase and that in mind the ford will last the longest and do the most work.

Reason: spelling
All the new Dodge trucks around here are going through front ends every 20-30k and a suprising number of 08 Cummins are having crank issues. The 6.4L may not be as reliable as the 7.3L, but it is just as reliable and the chassis it is built on is just as good as anything Dodge builds.

Jag and Land Rover was a while ago. Like early last year if I remember correctly.
Ford has a lot of capital ... lots more than the other two. Which is why they can hold off for a while.
