Need some advise

Hello Everyone,

This isn't specific to the Ford Diesel and this probably should be posted somewhere else, but I've only posted in here and you've all been very helpful to me in the past.

Anyway, I'm looking for advise on the best (and least expensive) way to transport an engine. It's currently on a rolling engine stand, but I need to put it into the back of a truck or on the trailer. And it's going from So Cal to No Cal, so lots of freeway, but lots of winding and probably bumpy roads too.

My understanding is that the engine can't rest on it's bottom, correct? I've heard about using an old tire (without the rim) but I don't have one. I do, however, have lots of scrap wood in all sizes and thicknesses (sp?).

Should I just go to the junkyard for a tire, or can I easily build something myself? And if I find a tire, how big does it need to be or will any size work?

Thanks so much!

Melanie

I've used two chunks of 4x4 wood (for a small block ford engine) and rested the engine on that. Then took two 2" ratchet style straps and strapped it to the bed. Of course you need mounting points low in the bed to do this. Tires work if it's deep enough to keep the weight off the pan.

Thanks, ponyboychris and rbaker6336. I'll try building something; I've got some 4 X 4s. It's a buick dauntless v6, and I couldn't really see how a tire could support it, unless it was a truck tire or something like that.
