I live in South Central Kansas and morning temps right now are around 5-10 degrees. I park my truck in an unheated shop every night. When I start it in the morning it smokes (white smoke) for 5 minutes or so until it gets water temp over 100 degrees. It runs rough for 20 -30 seconds when it first starts. It has a block heater, but the cord has been removed by previous owner. I am wondering if I spend the 100 bucks for the replacement cord from Ford if it will be money well spent?
Got the cord and installed it last night. WOW, what a bit** that was. Finally got it on and routed. Plugged it in, and went out this morning. Just to be safe I felt extension cord and heater cord to make sure neither was warm. Unplugged cord and just turned key to "on". Digital water temp said 95 instead of 60. Guess it works. Didn't drive truck today, so I didn't start it. Plugged it back in and left.
Just so you know most people put them on a timer and set it to about 2 hours before they go to use it. When I drive mine...usually its in a heated shop, I leave it plugged in overnight usually 6 hours. If I drove it everyday I would put it on a timer as it does pull alot of juice.
