I just bought a 1978 ford ranger 4x4 with a 6 in lift. I'm trying to figure out what size tires will fit. It came with 32" but I want to put on bigger mud tires. I have pics in my profile if that will help. Thanks!
Also does anyone have any recommendation on tires?
You could probably fit up to 38's or so....but if your on the stock running gear I wouldn't go much over 35's....Dana 44 fronts won't hold up real well to much more....
What do you plan on doing with it...if you want just a good all around off road tire that won't wear out in 5000 miles than a bfg Mud Terrain KM would be a great choice....i had them on my truck for quite a while.....
If its going to be just mud running...than a set of boggers....
If its just trail truck....then maybe some super swampers....
gotta give us some idea of what you'll be using it for...
35s fit nice with just a 4 inch lift. i had 39.5s on the one i had with a 6 inch lift and some fender cutting. but as said above nothing over a 35 is good on a stock 1/2 ton axle.
A friend of mine has a 78 150 on a 6" lift with 35's, looks good. 38's will fit with no other mods, depends on the look that your after (how "stuffed" the tires look) and how hard you wheel it.
A D44 won't put up with much abuse with 38's bolted to each end.
I have a 77 f-150 with 4" of lift and i clear 38s with no problem. Also i have the front of the fender cut about 2 inches. Doesnt rub even with the suspension completely flexed. I run stock drivetrain and havent broke anything yet. Not locked though.
