slip yoke size
can someone tell me if a 5.4 tranny uses the same slip yoke as the 4.6? Theres a 1.6 and a 1.88 diameter out there,, i take it the tailshafts are different, or is it 2 whl drive vs 4 x 4? I have the 4.6 in a 05 scab, 4 x 2, 145 in. wb, and i am having a d-shaft rebuilt, and i want to dispose of the staked in u joint arrangment. I found a used one that has the retainer clips, but want to make sure it will fit the tranny. (no. of splines also?) thanks in advance...paul

All of the 4x2 auto versions with the 5.4 or the 4.6 and the 4R70 series transmissions have the same slip yoke. The manual transmission vehicles have a different slip yoke as do the 4R100 autos.

thanks,,,after some research,,,looks like the 4.6 comes std with the 4R70/75 and the 5.4 comes with the 4R100. and yes looks like they use the same slip yoke. But the 4 x 4 uses a larger one. (the 1.88 dia.) I have an 05 scab 4.6 and looks like i can find any slip yoke, maybe '97 up(?) , either v8, as long as its not from a 4 x 4. And i'm still needing to verify the no. of splines just in case. thanks....paul
