the other day i noticed my truck wouldnt start it was 45 degrees outside it just cranked and cranked so i waited a couple mins finally after 4 tries it started well this just happened this morning in the middle of a snow storm i waited about 45 secs for the glow plugs to cycle and when i went to start it felt like it was going to fire then it just kept turning so i tried a couple more times after 5 mins i got it to start????i have no idea what the prob could be theres no codes in the computer because i just checked any suggestions
What did you use to check for codes? Most scanners won't pull codes off of our engines.
I'd suggest you get the batteries load tested. Weak batteries (or bad connections) will let the truck crank fast, but if the voltage is too low, the IDM won't fire the injectors no matter how fast the engine is spinning. The initial draw from the glow plugs may be draining the battery voltage low enough the truck won't start.
the scan tool i used is the snap on modis i think its called but i just put brand new batteries last week cleaned all the terminals also changed the starter and put a new gpr on it soo im lost
Use the snap on to monitor vpwr while cranking and make sure you don't drop below 10.5 volts. How old is your engine oil, and is it full? You can also monitor ICP pressure while cranking to make sure it's going over 500 psi.
You might want to pull the inspection plug off the HPOP reservoir after the truck has been sitting overnight and make sure the oil level there is within 1" of the top. If it's draining down, that could cause the problems starting.
i just changed my oil and switched over to synthetic and my oil is full and how do i check my hpop ?inspection plug? wheres it at and how hard is it to take offf?
Josh, hopefully others will be along with photo, but the HPOP is under the engine dressing cover near fuel filter. The plug is on the top. It should be within about 1/2 inch from the top.
Was it starting hard before? Just get cold there? Before starting first time for day,can you plug it in for couple hours and see if starts easier?
i checked my hpop yesterday and everything looked good and it started right up so im kinda confused maybe i got bad fuel or had water in the line ?????it doesnt happen all the time only when i really need to use the truck it seems like
Next you need to make sure your GPR is working every time. If you have another hard start spell, try jumping across the two large post on the relay for about a minute, then see if it starts.
