Ice storm tip
Just replaced my Uncle's '86 wiper motor after he made that mistake up in NY recently. The wipers started making a thumping noise at the end of each stroke & quickly began to loose speed/strength. On a dry WS they'd barely move!
The overload broke the E-clip groove 'end stop' on the wiper motor's shaft, resulting in the push/pull action moving the motor armature up & down. The commutator ended up bottoming out in the housing w/o E-clip stopping it. The reciprocating action was rapidly wearing out the brushes.
Could only find '91 wiper motor today & it appeared to be identical at 1st. However there's a 2nd connection at bottom I hadn't looked at that was different. Ended up splicing the correct plug in to make it work. Its a bit of a PITA to R&R the wiper motor.
