Hi All, Changed the plugs in my 04 V-10 today after researching the threads here and asking a couple questions. I used Auto lite AP103 plugs and Borg Warner boots. Cost was $68 from O reilly's. This included small tube of boot grease. My place of business is an aviation maintenance facility so I had a nice warm place to work. (The high today was 4). It took me a hair over 2 hrs and in my opinion was pretty easy compared to some other jobs I have tackled. I think the key to the whole process was that we have a maintenance stand which was almost exactly the same height as my truck. I placed it in front of the truck, put a piece of plywood from the stand to the front of the truck and put a blanket down on that. The result was a very comfortable place to lay while I worked. My buddy helped by anti-seizing the plugs and greasing the boots. (and handing me stuff). The truck currently has 97K. I bought it with 78K. I dont know if the plugs had ever been changed but they looked pretty good and I had no trouble taking them out. The gaps were spread a little but other then that they looked good. The truck purrs like a kitten. I love this site and want to thank all of you for sharing your experiences. I have learned a lot about my truck.
When I did my plugs, I used a couple of car mats, with a few blankets underneath, and a step ladder. Just layed my 240lbs on top of everything and it worked great.
They use platinum plugs so very high... I think 1ooK?
BUT.... If you plan to keep the truck for an extended period, I recommend changing every 3-5 years regardless of miles.
This is to break loose the electrolytic fusion between the steel plug and aluminum head and reduce the chance of removing threads with the plug.
And of course, install fresh using a TORQUE WRENCH!
