I want to make an extension cord for a clothes dryer. So I can plug one end into the dryer outlet in my laundry room, and run the other end out the basement window to the driveway. So when I pick up old washers and dryers, I can plug them in right on the back of my truck and see if they work.
Any ideas. I have some left over orange wire from when we ran the circuit for the dryer plug. I thought I could put an outlet on one end, a plug on the other and that would work.
The orange wire is Romex and yes in theory it will work. It is supposed to be used in a location where it will be protected from physical damage. I have seen many extension cords made out of romex end up shorting out. As said above get a length of #10 AWG SJ cord and make up a safe one.
Why not just pick up an RV cord?
Come in a variety of lengths and I just saw one at Walmart today when I was there picking up some oil and a filter for my truck.
Didn't check to see how much it cost, though. But it'd be the safest way.
