hi all, i pulled my codes and found a bad rear diff. sensor so i went to napa and got a new one and found that a small tooth from the locker gears had goten up there and busted my sensor. so pulled the cover off to find another one, anyways put the new senser back in and new oil and now the new one don't even work?? bad sensor?? the sensing gear did not look damaged nor did anything else? lots of shavings in the oil, looked like a brass color? any thoughts on this.thanks kent
It's not unhead of to get a bad sensor out of the box. Are you referring to an ABS sensor, or the VSS sensor that mounts on the diff. A bad VSS would mean your speedo doesn't work.
Napa has a hard time getting you the right sensor... take it back and get a VSS from Ford. Cost is about the same and you know you got the right part. If you're chunking teeth off the ring gear though, you've got bigger problems than a bad VSS. The tone ring that sends the signal to the VSS may be damaged even though it looks okay.
