A couple things I learned. If you get a ticket, get an attorney, especially out of state because if nothing else, you can delay any points to your home state. From your avitar looks like you live in NC. I have State Farm in GA, and State Farm is strong in the south.
Next, when you price your insurance, include all your insurance needs. i.e. Home owner's and or any personal property insurance.
Think of buying nsurance like buying a new truck. No difference. Options galore and which do you need and can afford. Limits, deductibles, uninsured motorist, etc. What they are saying to you is how much pain can you take.
One more, and then a comment. If there is any way you can pay the premium when you receive the bill, for the entire six month premium, JUST DO IT. Insurance companies look at the pre payment of six months as a stable customer.
Wife has 2006 Lexus Rx 400h; and I have a 2008 F-350 KR fully loaded 6.4, etc.
With all discounts, extended liability coverage and the above we are around $2,200 a year. Finally, we keep his and her policies on automobiles, and joint on home, bobcat, trailers, etc.
Oh, remember companies like State Farm are like stock companies. If they have a good year, they will refund some of your premium. That is not included above. We received several rebate checks last year.
Good luck.

Thats pretty amazing.

You really need to do the homework yourself. I've received drastically different quotes while shopping around ---- something I do regularly.

Each company uses their own formulas for insuring you --- evaluating your risk to them; in addition to where you live, etc.

Carefully write down all the details from your present policy from the Declarations and Coverages pages ...... amounts of coverage, deductables, etc. Include realistic miles driven each year, percentages of who drives each car. Every question that was asked of you by your present insurer. Then fax that to the different companies to get a quote.

As mentioned above, remember the discounts from having all your insurance with one company.

Good luck.

I have State Farm. I carry alot of coverage. You know the old "Bargain if you need it, rippoff is you never use it" saying.

Statefarm gave me the best rate for my son 17 4x4 blah blah blah. he paid $86.00 a month.

I have my 06 Sd I have $500.00 ded. roadside, windsheild, rentacar, I think 500,000 / 300,000 Misc, medical ect... I pay $432.00 a year. maybe a tad less. I am in what they call an elite group. They cannot drop me for any reason. (what they say anyways)

State Farm has always been there for me and my family. House claims, car claims, camper claims ect.

I have 2 not at fault accident on my liscense.
(a F350 slid under the side of my semi trailer) I was shocked at the damage. I bent that truck in half, only bent a ril and knocked out a midship blinker lense. My 1992 F150 fell out of gear in a parking lot and rolled across the lot and hit a car. 1 speeding ticket. 32 in a 25. I think the cop wanted to catch me on a CCW violation.

I use my issurence and it stays affordable. Those insidents happened in 05 and 06. Before that I had nothin.

I didnt understand it, but when I asked them, I fell into a catagory, meening. I am 42 have had them since I was 18 . The only claims I have had against me where the ones I listed, and My house was hit by a Tornado. ($72000) pay out.

The lady who know me (been there along time) Said I have paid for all these years, and no at fault claims. There was a word but I dont remember. She also said, its where you want to be when you start getting older. (late 60's) when it is harder to get coverage.

Keep in mind, I dont live in a county with a big city. Portage county Ohio, Our big city is Ravenna. You can park right outside the court house, with out paying.

My bad, just looked at my policy, its $1400 a year, dont know where i got $1000 from.

Forgot to mention, this is with METLIFE and my speeding tickets were all several years ago so prob. dont count against me. THe reckless driving was 2-3 years ago and all my wifes tickets are current (within last two years)

Got a quote from Geico, was gonna be over 4K a year. Similar results with NC farm bureau and progressive. Allstate wont insure me due to my reckless driving.

Update:

Basically we have 6 (by we I mean the wife ) points against us by all insurers standard. Plus my truck being lifted.

Coverages are Bod Inj. $30,000.00 per person, $60,000.00 per accident, Prop. Damage $25,000.00 per accident. 2 vehicles both with $500 deductibles.

All really low coverages.

With that being said:

GEICO: $1269.95 @6mo.

Nationwide: won't cover altered vehicles

Allstate: $1400+ @6mo.

Progressive: $1300 @6mo.

State Farm: $1355 @6mo.

When I got my truck my premium actually went down. I was paying 1,200/year for my car with almost minimal coverage. I added full coverage on the truck and now I pay around 1,050/year.
21 male, 1 minor accident, 1 totalled vehicle, and beaten every speeding ticket I've gotten. Live far enough away from Boston I dodge the higher rate, and I put my father as a deferred driver in case he needs my truck. He's been with Liberty Mutual for 30+ years with a clean record so that gives me a good discount.

Funny, Allstate never asked me if my truck was lifted, nor would I volunteer that information.

But they did visually inspect it when I first got it, like they do all vehicles.

If you don't disclose that info some insurers can deny liability.

I would have to drag up my policy, but I have Peerless (which is a Liberty Mutual arm) and it is the cheapest around. That and my agent is our friend and my Fire Chief's wife.

I am only 17 and I think the insurance went up $400 every 6 months, which isn't so bad. I don't have any tickets and have never been in any accidents. I almost got into a really bad accident where the other person would have been at fault, but luckily my friend and I felt like we should get some pizza, so while we were stopped at a red light, I turned into a strip mall. about 10' into the parking lot I could have swore I just completely crunched some ladies Mercedes when she opened the door, but luckily it was a god damn minivan driver who crashed into some really expensive car that was in front of my at the light. We are with Allstate right now, but I dread when I need my own insurance, because I will want to have a raised truck with some modifications to it. If the paper I am signing doesn't say I need to disclose that information, I will not, that's just putting yourself in a hole.

I have Farm Bureau and recommend them, yes I was a farmer (not anymore) but you don't have to be a farmer to have them for insurance. 2 vehicles, full coverage on the explorer and liability on the F250 costing me $78/month AFTER I got in the wreck last year that totalled both my 03 expy, and a 07 frieghtliner, they paid it with no issues, covered my medical total was almost $100k and my insurance went up $11/month. They even covered me going to a chiropractor for 5 months with only asking me how I was doing and ok let us know type of deal. I can still go if I want o even 7 months after the accident the answer is "just get yourself back to 100%" and I consider that really good since I was at fault.

3 cars: '05 F250 v8 (my occasional hauler), '99 Exploder v8(wifes DD), '98 civic(my DD) $1100 total per year, State Farm. We also have our house insurance with them which is probably another $250ish (goes through mortgage escrow so I don't really see it) plus another couple riders for another $150ish. All figures are annual.

I live in a small suburb well outside the Twin Cities and have no tickets or accidents for the past 15+ years. Wife's record...well I'll get in trouble if I say "wimmen drivers" won't I?? I expect the exploder rate will go up as she has hit every object moving and stationary in the 2-state region lately.

I remember 17 yrs ago when I was about to buy my 1st car on my own. It was down to a SHO or a 325i. I called insurance and the cost of the 325 was like 5x the SHO. It was amazing the difference. I loved that SHO for 15.5 yrs... :-)

Well, here goes vehicles cost per month, and I live just west of Detroit
F350 2001 -full coverage 2WD my truck $98.80
F350 2001- full coverage 4 WD my son's truck $130.00
99 E250- full coverage wife's ride $78.00
95 Old's Aurora basic insurance Daughters car $82.15
2005 Katana 750 Wife's ride $46.93
Also a 1965 442 Post frame off very nice $20,000 if stolen or totaled plus full coverage (really kind of light I need to have it appraised) $127.50 every six months
Plus the house and garage $800.00 a year.
Insurance poor I'm not but State Farm is doing good from me. But my son was in a bad accident several years ago, I saw some of the bills over $85,000 just for the hospital stay, they covered everything plus he is covered for life for the parts of his body affected by the accident. I think out of that whole mess I paid like $22.50 for phone or tv something like that, he was in for three weeks. Almost got a helicopter ride but it was busy.
Almost forgot 89 Tbird SC in the garage till spring like $52.00 a month>>soon to be for sale I think
