Whenever I start to feel good about my truck, something breaks. I finally figured that my 4WD issues are most likely related to a bad driveshaft u-joint that was "checked" and said to be ok the last time I had it in the shop. So im feeling pretty good, when i get to work and go to open the door, the interior door handle breaks off. It worked fine until that very moment. What the hell. I must have been a horrible person in a past life or something. It times like this that i wish for a new truck. Then i actually look at one up close. Big, bulbous, ugly and 90% plastic. All I want is a brand new 1995 F-150. Maybe I will win the lottery (sigh).
Sounds like you have the same problem as my brother. Whenever he drove my truck he broke something on it. Eventually, I quit letting him drive it. When my U-Joints went bad, I could hear, and feel, them clunking under there.
I was thinking the same thing. If I won the powerball I wouldnt go buy a new truck. I would build me a brand new 96 from factory Ford parts. It might cost me $150,000 but at least I'd have a real truck.
I started to do that with my other truck, a '93 F-150 4x4. reg cab, short box. I still miss the 300 I-6. I put over $5000 in it. New box, new paint, rims, went through most of the truck. Springs, hangers, break lines, shocks. Four years of hard work went down the tubes in 10 seconds on a patch of black ice. I picked up the picies and drove that sucker for the final time off the road though. Where was the tons or road salt that day New York? Oh, and by the time my dad got there 20 mins later, the ice had melted
i have the same luck,my alt went out, then the muffler fell off but didnt care about the muffler too much, now the new alt is bad,my rear tire has a hole and my u joints are starting to go,i want a new truck soo bad
Well it is minor interior parts, that only minorly inconvience me then I not so PO'ed when they break. When the u-joints go bad, not really a big deal to knock them out and squeeze them in. When the exhaust pipe gets a hole, I either weld it or get a new pipe. When the tires get holes in them and they are slicks or closing in on being slicks, I get new ones.
When the transmission wont go into gear/stay in gear, the wiring has bad spots in it that you can never seem to find, the block gets better mileage on a quart of oil than it does gas, or a new rust hole adds to the ventilation of the passenger compartment then I find a reason to be frustrated and ready for a new vehicle.
I may have been overly negative yesterday. It is always the timing of these things that **** me off the most. Yes, my truck does frustrate me sometimes. Yes, I would like everything to work properly and at the same time. But I still love it. As long as its able to move itself down the road, I will be driving it. And if it becomes undrivable, I will find another one of the same body style. Except not from the northeast. Either way, at least I know I will have a real truck. Door handle or no door handle (Which wil be fixed very soon).
I know how it feels, when everything is going right, something stupid breaks. I have finally fixed all of the little problems my grandpa ignored when he owned my truck. I even got all the little interior rattles fixed and managed to scrape together the money to put on a full exhaust from headers all the way back. Truck runs great!
Then a couple of weeks ago the damn cable that runs from the driver side interior door handle to the latch breaks. Now I have to roll down the window and open from outside or go out the passenger side door, this is a stupid problem to have.
Same thing happened to me. Thats what set me off the other day. But this site saved me. I was starting to listen to all the chevy people. It seems like I am in the minority where I live but my faith has been renewed. There was a reason I was drawn to Fords in the first place and everyone here has helped me remember that. Thanks
Send it to CHIP FOOSE, he will build you a BRAND NEW 1995 f150
yeah complete with gm crate 350..... seems like everything he builds has a gm crate motor in it....
but to comment on the subject at hand, feel fortunate that you have your truck, i was just saying how mine wouldnt quit, nothing ever broke on it, the next day a lady pulled out in front of me and i slammed into her and totaled my truck. just 2 weeks ago now too...
Welcome to used vehicle ownership. You either pay a hefty sum up front for brand new, or you pay every few weeks to keep the junk rolling. Them plastic handles are junk. The good thing is you can get them off the Help! wall in any parts store for $5. You're really gonna be pissed when you pull up on the door handle one day only to find the sheet metal that the plastic handle bolts onto has torn. It's easy to fix if you can weld. It's probably easy to fix anyway.
