Just got my Headers from Summet. Reading the directions and Its saying to Disconect the front drive shaft, clutch linkage, starter and possable the motor from the motor mounts. Is this realy nessary? I know the passenger side looks tight. Has any done this before or have any tips for me.
DO THIS...LIFT UP THE ENGINE!!! its the easiest way to get them in!! by far!!
I tried to get by without doing this, BAD IDEA!! I ended up torching off a half inch to an inch of frame on the passengers side to get that thing in.... I should've lifted the engine.....
I lifted the motor and it caused more problems than it did good. I actualy got the headers on. I spent more time getting the motor mounts back in place than it took me to get the headers. But I am very gratfull for all your adavise
Well you never mentioned which engine or model truck you were putting them on, i assume ranger was thinking a 76 with a 302, which in that case it would be easier on. but on say a Big Block then it is easier. it all depends on what you are working with, everything is differant.
Sory I guess I forgot to mention what I have, its a 1979 F150, 351M, 4 Speed Manual, 6 inch skyjacker suspension lift, 35X14.5, 15 Super Swamper Thornbirds. Summet was the one who told me to lift the motor, A friend and I tried this last saterday. after lifting the motor the header were still to tight. we decided to give up, it took us an hour just to get the motor mounts back in place, after that we tried one more time this time with just the starter off, my friend was looking down under the hood and I was under the truck trying to get the header in. I dont know how but it just ended up fitting. Iam very gratfull for everyone's help. If anyone out there can tell me where I can download a chiltons manual or just flat out tell me how to get the clutch linkage back together, please do.
I think its good to hear how hard it actually is to install aset of regular headers on atruck!!!I have aset of Sandersons blockhuggers and i'll keep you'll posted on how the install went after we get the engine back in the truck---I suspect that they will be quite abit easier to install than those full size jobbers---but they are not cheap----very high quality and thick metal----fd
