finally got some pics in the gallery of my mirror mod. What I did was shorten the telescopic mirror so they are cloaser to the truck when collapsed. Wehn extended, they are about the same size as stock mirrors pushed in.
If you never pull your mirrors out, then this is a mod for you. If you like to have them extended way out, them forget it. This mod will narrow your truck by 4" overall, for me, that makes it a lot easier to get in and oput of the garage at the house.
Nice!!! i was thinking of trying that but have been too lazy to pull them apart to see if it was possible. Was it as simple as cutting the shaft and putting in a retainer so the mirror doesnt fall off or was it a little more involved.
I saw the final pictures but not the how too. Need to break mine apart and resecure the housings together.
If you have have more pictures of the process and some instructions, I can turn them into a PDF and put them up with my other write ups, giving you the credit of course.
If you need narrower, have you considered just swapping them out with the paddle mirrors? I'm sure someone would love to swap with you.
I dont tow and i dont mind the looks of the paddle mirrors but i find the tt mirror just gives way more visibility, i just dont like folding them in every time i pull into the garage.

That's a good point. I certainly didn't mean to be critical. Thanks for sharing, I'm sure it will be helpful for others.
when i do the drivers side i will document with pics. Here is the basics of how it is done. If your good you can do this on the truck, but here is how i did it.
Follow mirror remove instructions on here. AND YOU NEED to follow the tip about useing the crow bar to pop the glass off or you will be trying to install that stuff later.
Pulled mirror off thruck and cut the wires. Under both glass remove the guts. The slides are hollow tubes held from coming off by wire clips easy to do.
I made a pattern of the end of the tube, and moved it make about 2 1/16" the distance when mirro was in.
Used a dremel to cut the end of the tube to the pattern i had scribed out. Allso when you have it apart you will see 4 spring loaded plungers that keep the tube tight. You have to remove the 2 outer most plungers, and cut the plastic right where the center of the plunger was. If you do not the mirror will not go all the way in til touching.
I have not figured out how to deal with the wire, I am thinking you could tape a string on the end so you can pull it back through.
On the first one, I tore the mirror completely aprt, and actually cut the inside end of tube first, then realized the outer end under th eglass would have been the better choice. But having it cmpletly apart made getting the wire in easy, but taking the tubess off the pivots was bad, so DO NOT GO THERE. When i finnally got it apart i had to cut that end because of the damage i had done.
It is not hard, like i said i will try drivers side on the truck leaving the wires and all in tact and working around it if I can, I will take pics as i go as well.
