i have a 02 expedition with th 5.4l , i bought it a week agq with 109,000 miles and a brand new aamco transmission. when i bought the truck i noticed a very small skip at idle speed. But i just thougt it needed a new fuel injector because the injector was leaking gas, and the smell of fuel was coming into the cab not too good for my kids to breathe. Anyways i drove it on saturday to pick up some stuff in town, and i noticed it running a little rougher, but only at idle speed, and the gas mileage was horrible. i went home and went to bed with the intentions of replacing the injector the next day. Sunday morning i get up go fire up the truck and i am off down the road when all the sudden it feels like a plug fouled, it just starts running ****ty. i am wondering how to find out which COP or plug is bad , it gave NO CEL.ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT, I AM THINKING OF TAKING IT TO A SHOP TO GET IT DIAGNOSED, AND THE IGNITION SCOPED. THEN I WILL REPLACE THE PART MYSELF.IS THIS COMMON FOR THESE ?
My excursion and expedition had a little "burp" and were running rough. I ran a couple of bottles of Seafoam through my X and a bottle in the Expedition. I, too didnt get a check engine light for either of the cars. Made a big difference. I would try that first, about 8 bucks a can.
Yes, research and you will find many recent posts about this problem. COP's are the #1 reason for misfires. With 109 on it I would buy a whole new set of COP's from Uneek on Ebay and new set of motorcraft plugs. It all can be done for a little over $100 yourself. A dealer would charge you $800. That should fix your problems.
I just a set of 8 off ebay. Kitty on 22's sent me a link. Cost me less than 82 bucks for a set, that's with shipping. I've read a couple of times around here to go with the motorcraft plugs, something about the threads would prevent blow outs.
