My grandpa has a 78 f150 2x4 and I have a 78 f150 4x4 can I put his bed on mine they are both long bed. He only wants $200 for the whole truck and it runs. I was thinking about buying it and putting a stepside on it. would that work? also it has a 300ci would it be benifical to swap it or is there a way to build it up for some power?
yes, putting a longbed FLARESIDE bed would work, too. now many people do that tho. it would probably be hard to find information for that if you get into a problem and need some info.
your truck has a 300 or your grandpa's does? 300s are great motors. you can build it up of course. go to the Inline 6 forum if you want to ask questions. www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum52
or it could be any other FE motor. they all look the same. is it the stock motor? or you can check on the left valve cover and see if the sticker is still there. if so, it will say which engine it is.
the last year for the 360 and 390 was 1976 so that is possible. now you get to have the fun of figuring out where each part came from. 70s ford, 80s ford, not a ford at all.
the thing is a 390 never came in a 4x4, but if someone told you that it was a 390 I would believe that.
right now it has the bed off of a 83. the front suspension is completly wrong. the grill is a 73-75. other then that it seems straight. I have alot planned for this truck. I love these style trucks. My wife drive a 94 f150 4x4 and it is confusing as hell when i try to tinker with it. I will be sticking with the old carb feed motors rather the EFI. All that I have done to my truck so far is put a voltage regulator and alternator in and took down the cardboard headliner and staple on a confederate flag.
