I have a 1956 Ford PU with a "T" paint code. I have researched and been unable to find a "T" code in any paint chips. Any help in solving this would be appreciated.
How have you determined that this 56 pu has a "T" paint code? If it came from the data plate inside the drivers door jamb, then I would question whether the plate had been modified or reproduced. "T" does not seem to be a valid code for trucks in 56; however, it is a good code for the Thunderbird. I am not sure if a buyer could special order (paint code "SS") a T-bird color in 1956 for a truck, or even if they did would it have come delivered with the "T" code or the "SS" code. Can you tell if the original color on the truck was "Thunderbird Gray"...PPG code 31386?
Could not find a T Code for trucks.
I did find a 1955 paint chart for cars and trucks that has a T code for Thunderbird Blue.
Rinshed-Mason enamel code E-437.
I assume this color was for T-Birds only, but, am not sure of this.
The data plate and VIN numbers appear to be original, although its been removed for painting and screwed back on.
The color appears to be light blue in the out of the way places that I have looked at. The truck has been repainted probably more than once.

From the 1949/59 Ford Car Parts Catalog / Exterior Paint Codes.
1955: T = Thunderbird Blue (Skyhaze Green)
1956: No T listed. However it might have been listed for a Mercury or Lincoln (I don't have these parts catalogs).
1957: T = Woodsmoke Grey (not specific to T-Birds)
If the color was listed for a car (Ford/Mercury/Lincoln), a buyer could get that color on a truck, and vice versa.
SS was only used if the color was not available on a Ford product.
SS Examples: Coca Cola Red / Bell Telephone Green / Various colors used by the US Gov't.

Because of assembly line problems with the new 1957 truck line, Ford continued to make 1956 trucks into December of 1956, when the 1957 cars were already on the market.
The 1957 trucks were not introduced till January 1957.
New vehicle introduction time: September of the previous year.

What color was the truck originally?
