302 motor numbers.

302 motor numbers.
I need to find out where the motor numbers are so I can tell what year the motor is. I have a 75 F100 that is suppose to have a 86 model 302 in it. Where on the motor can I find the numbers at. I need to know the year so I can order my comp cam kit. Plus I have 2 more that I need to know. A 351 Modified and not sure what the other is. Comp said a 1985 or 85 used a "31" perfix to let you now this is a factory roller cam and a 351 used a "35" prefix. Is this in the Vin # on the truck or is it on the motor somewhere. B/c the motors are not the original to either truck. This is why I need to know where the numbers are on the motors. Thanks Scott

Block casting numbers are on the rear side of the block near where the starter mounts, you'll need an E7TE casting to be 100% sure you have a block that's machined for a factory roller cam, some earlier blocks may be partially machined or cast as a roller block but not machined at all. The roller blocks had taller lifter bores and bosses in the valley for the spider assembly.

Thanks, I'll take a look tomorrow. I'll look for the E7TE casting. Comp mentioned the taller lifter bores to. I guess the intake has to come off to check the valley out. I'll do that to once I find out what year it is.
