It's alive!!

"The Super Pickle" fired up today, and I want to send a big "THANK YOU" to all of you who helped me out with this!!

After we let it warm up a bit, and made sure nothing was leaking, I drove it around the block, and had a few fond memories come to mind.
The final two things that were done today were:
- New points installed (though the old ones looked good after removing them)
- New plug wires

Anyway, now I'm going to go through and shorten up some wires that are too long and "coiled", trace some "unknowns", and make sure to hook up all of the "other electrical" (Tach, backup lights, CB, am/fm radio).
All that along with greasing all of the zirc fittings, replacing all of the u-joints (or greasing them?), adjusting the steering (slop), and topping off the axles w/ gear oil.
Couple of things; any way to "lube the windows"? The driver's goes down easy 1/2 way then stops. The passenger side is REALLY stiff, so I decided not to force it.
A shop manual is next on my list, along with a new pair of wipers (from NAPA?) NAPA had the hook up on the plug wires today, had them IN STOCK! You guys were right, they ROCK!

Well, thanks again; I'll be bugging you guys with other questions about this old girl, but so far I LOVE 'ER!
Oh... my wife even smiled at me for the "kid with a new toy" look I had on my face this afternoon.
Ciao-4-Now
Lube...just grease the u joints and other zirc fittings...there arent many...just do it just so the seal fills up...many fill till you see it pop out...that defeats the pourpose of the seal initiially..
steering slop...these trucks have lots...moreso on 4WD...assume it hasnt had a rebuild in a long time...not too hard, but time consuming and kinda spendy if money is tight..
the wiring...hold off on that for the time being till I can get a look at it in the flesh...prolly gonna run south next weekend at some point.
Im glad ya got it going...other things I would do....change oil/filter...check trans and transfer case oil levels on the flat...same with the front and rear diffs...
Check brake fluid level and have a looksee for wet/damp backing plates or where the flexible lines connect.
Other then that...sounds good...I would also keep the battery undone when you arent tiunkering...just in case theres a draw in the wiring somewhere...as it looks, I wouldnt be surprised.

- Choke is STIFF and it looks like it was converted to a manual from an auto
- The 'accelerator pump'(?) on the secondaries (the little arm thing that sticks out of the square housing w/ a round stamp in it?)- The arm is broken off and not functioning
Also, the emergency/parking brake is stuck (in the 'off' position thank God), what's the best way to address that?
OH, and one of my saddle tanks is FULL of bad gas (I thought they were empty). Where can I have it drained safely/responsibly?
E Brake, mine was the same, truck sat forever. Take some penetrating oil and squirt the topside of the tract opposite the carriage mount.pull handle. The top side is an open tract and can be oiled. I'd hit it with any rust breaker and solvent etc.. Diesel/Tranny fluid 50/50 whatever.. then rapp the tract tube with a wrench or ?/ to shock the rust weld. Tug the handle with caution and repeat till it frees up.
My choke was stiff too. The screw to adjust it was too far out and it snagged the cam when being pulled. Have someone actuate it and watch it. Then adjust accordingly.
Sure glad to hear se is barking to the music!! nd that the gal is happy for you!!! Take her(little woman) for a good Sunday ride in it with a picnic basket/bottle O wine after you get the old girl trustworthy. Be a damn good afternoon you two wont soon forget!!

As for the fuel filter(s) I replced them before I tried to fire it up. Replaced both the canister on the fuel pump AND the in-line filter; replaced it w/ a clear one to see if fuel was flowing to the carb.
Added some "Heet" fuel additive to remove water from the fuel and line, also of note - no fuel leaking. I thought I had a bad fuel line, but the left saddle was leaking out through the neck. I tightened down the cap - problem solved.
Here's a weird one, the left tank is almost full! I switched over to it after warming up, and it's burning fine. (?) I drove it around the block again, ready to switch tanks, but it just kept on going strong.

I've also fixed the CB, and found it has a MAP LIGHT! There was no bulb and a piece of napkin stuffed in the socket (?). I put a bulb in and POOF!
I figured out what one of the big red wires on the pos side of the solenoid is... it's a power lead to the inside of the cab for the horn (remote button on the dash), CB, and "the mystery switch". The Sun Super Tach II is toast though. I made sure it was hooked up right, and the connections were good - no go. Say, how do you get to the Speedometer cable behind the speedo? Does it just pop out? Where does it go (from where to where)? I want to see if it's just loose, or broken.
Thanks again.
