I'm new here and this is my first diesel, so be gentle.
I am picking up my 03 Excursion tomorrow. The salesman was a service writer at the dealership before becoming a salesman. He ran the Oasis report and the EGR valve has been updated, there was a programing issue and an A/C problem and that's it. BTW, the salesman is my oldest son, so I trust him. The truck has 59K miles and is really clean and the price was right.
Anyway... He is suggesting I buy a warranty. With some of the 6.0 issues I have read about, it seems like a good idea, but I am unsure of what level warranty to get. The engine/drivetrain (Powertrain care) was my first choice, but he is recommending the next level (Basecare) which has a little more coverage. His boss is pushing the Extracare package (of course LOL). This would be for 4/48.
We bought our 2000 Exc for short $ from a dealer. Sales guy sugest Ext warrenty. I've had experience with warrentyies before. After screaming and threatening legal action the warrenty was worth $ spent. We got the top warrenty for short $. Immediatley had a funny noise upfront. Long story short all was fixed plus they found a leak at back of engine and they fixed that ,too. The repairs or the parts I figured would've cost that ++! I knew that a good deal can go real bad real quick. I'm guessing that the reason for the "trade in" became evident real quick! Moral..Get the best plan for the best $.
We got a bettter deal by going multiple years.

Any suggestions or experiences?
just my opinion if you buy a extended warranty.. it is though ford or no warranty at all.. meanin dont go though aftermarket company/warranty.. just my two cents.

It will be a Ford warranty and the service dept there has treated me well in the past.
I'd definately go with the aforementioned advice. Make sure it's a Ford warranty and get yourself the best one so there's no question as to whats covered and what's not.
I'm curious, I bought an '05 X 6.0 PSD and it still has miles and time left on the manufacturer's 5yr/100k mile powertrain warranty. How do I get the warranty transferred to my name. Is there someplace I need to contact at Ford. I'd just like to cover myself for recalls and TSB's. I also thought there was a diesel powertrain extended warranty available from Ford, is this right? If so where can I find info on this?
