2001 explorer with 5.0 engine cranks and cranks but will not start. i can hear the fuel pump run for a second or two when the switch is turned on. i have fuel at the fuel rail it squirts out of the schrader valve with a lot of force when pushed. i checked for spark off both coil packs and they are good. have no idea what else could keep it from starting. i could not find any blown fuses any suggestions would really be appreciated.
did it die while driving or just wont start after sitting over night?
if it died, you might have a broken timing belt, and theres a good chance that your valves have been destroyed and engine is shot.
if it just wont start, try spraying some starter fluid into the intake manifold, just a quick spray and then try cranking it up.
If it cranks up or atleast catches and turns over for second, then your not getting fuel into the engine.
If nothing happens still, then your timing belt could be shot or it could mean that your not getting any ignition to that spark plugs
Have you pulled the codes yet? There may be a code stored even if CEL is out. Also, if you can see a valve (maybe thru the oil fill cap?) and they move during crank, then your timing chain/belt is still on. Also, do a search on 'crankshaft position sensor' on this forum. That may be your problem as well.
I'd go with the crankshaft position sensor myself. I had one last summer that kept getting towed in and would start right away when I tried it. It finally wouldn't go and monitoring the signals saw no CKP. Connector felt a little wonky too. Replaced the CKP and connector...vehicle hasn't been back!
