C6 trans issue

Have 93 351 with c6 4x4 . Wont move much. Trans fluid is clean and smells good. No noise from trans. Just have to give a lot of gas to get it to move in all gears. Do you think it is the TC or the fluid pump?

Thanks TJ

I have had the pump do this. A TC generally will work or not. I have not seen a TC do this. So I would look at the pump. Good luck.

Just now I tried it and it seemed to move ok, so maybe it is the pump. After re looking at the trans fluid. it seems clean but is not red like trans fluid , dont smell burnt or metalic colors to it. But it dont smell like trans fluid. I just got this truck for a song. so I dont know mutch about it. What if the previous owner put engine oil in the trans. would it act like this? trans fluid looks and smells more like engine oil.

5 or 10 weight engine oil would work like trans oil I would think. But it would toast the trans in short order. I have used 30w motor oil to get a slipper home. It will waist the trans also and won't do what yours is doing. If it is the wrong oil you could try pumping it out the cooling line wile pouring the right stuff back in through the other line. But it would take doing it a couple times to get it all out of the TC. The C6 is an easy overhaul. And the kit with a pump and converter is very reasonable. If it slams into gear when ya rev it than it may be a sticky valve body. Try changing the fluid through the cooling lines and it may cure it. Get a 5 gal. bucket of fluid and pump it all through. There is an old post on here that will walk ya through it but I can't tell ya how to find it.

Just took it for a drive. seems slugish a bit. But Iam used to a 5 speed with 5.9 cummins . will drive but sometimes putting it into D it will make whoosh whoosh grind grind noise, but not every time. Reverse is definatly strong. When it makes this noise you can put it into 2nd or 1st and it goes away.? My guess is I have to buy a re build manual, or I seen a video has any one used on? which is the best. Also whos rebuild kit to use this truck will be used as a weekend rubbish soil or gravel delivery truck and a snow plow in the winter. How to tell if it is a 351W or M

Thanks TJ
