ok, so a couple of days ago (ya I posted in another thread I know) I took the door panels off to clean underneath of them and just check everything out there. well, the screws were all changed in the handles and they all stripped so I need to replace them all (The gears on the inside were pretty worn out anyways too, and on the shaft) well, melted to the door underneath the panel was this weird goo stuff like resin of some kind, so I took a screw driver and broke it up and cleaned it out of the holes, then realized it was a cube of something (?) with e circle through the middle and I have no idea what it is or if it was really bad that I did that?
May try taking a tap and clean up the threads. If the threads are damaged may try going slightly over and re-tap new threads. I have repaired the knurled end of the of the shaft on the window regulator by taking a small rectangular file and carefully reset the knurled grooves, take your time. If seriously stripped there is a door handle shaft replacement, but I have never been successful.
Just happened to buy a set of window regulators off ebay and was checking them out yesterday. It can be easy to set the screw and the handle not be fully seated. The set screw should not touch any part of the knurled shaft, this is how they become stripped, it seats in the valley at the base of the shaft. If recall, a member mentioned a fix by drilling an indentation in the base of the shaft for the set screw to seat because the knurled portion shaft was seriously stripped.
I am not clear where the item is question came from, if the screws that secure the handle to the door panel were removed and you were prying from inside the door panel, the description suggest it may be one of the anchor nuts, it sets in a trac in the window regulator that secures it to the door panel. Anyhow, just questing, as 66f1004X4 mentions, pic's would help.
