pcv question
I have a decent amount of blow by coming out of each valve cover. The pcv is on the passenger side and I have a breather on the other. The problem is the breather has oil spilling out of it. So can I tee off the pcv hose and run two pcvs? Or can I run one pcv on the passenger side, and run the other side into the air cleaner?
Thanks,
Brad

The PCV system is designed to pull fresh air into the left valve cover (either directly or thru the air cleaner) thru the engine and pull all the fumes with it then thru the valve into the intake to be burned. You have one of three things wrong here.
1) The PCV valve is bad (plugged) and not letting air thru into the intake.
2)The vacuum hose is plugged or fitting into the intake is plugged or the gasket is wrong if the hose goes into the carb spacer.
3)Or your engine has so much blow by (AKA bad rings) that it is over powering your PCV system

I am sure one of the other heads can splain it better than me, but I'll give it a shot.
Sounds like the setup is correct, but if oil is coming out of the vent on the drivers side, it indicates to me that there is no hose connected to the pcv valve. There should be a hose connected to the pcv and to either a plate under the carb or on later vehicles into the breather.
You want vacuum to sweep the engine of those gasses, by pulling air into the drivers side, through the block and out of the passenger side into the engine to be burned. Rick at Carolina Classics in Durham NC has the hose, because I got one from him recently.
I see da bear was writtin at the same time as me.

o.k, I checked it out and the pcv hose is going directly into the carb spacer and it has ALOT of vaccum. if I put my thumb over it I can feel it. and with the engine off the pcv valve will rattle when I shake it.
I had the valve covers off recently and and everything looked good. no noticable obstructions.

It worked out well. I basically got the same breather I have pictured there, but it has one big hole in the top instead of holes around the bottom (like that one). So I used a plumbing elbow that happen to thread into the rubber grommet in the top of the breather, and then ran heater hose off the elbow around, and into the base of the air cleaner. The air cleaner base came setup with the parts for such an application. I drove it around last night for about an hour, at highway speeds (which with 4.56 gears is turning a high rpm) at the system seemed to work well. No oil anywhere. If you want to see the set up I can take a picture.
