Hi I'm new to this forum, but anyways, my dashboard is loose. When I looked at it there is a bolt on the passenger side that is loose and resists being tightened.
It feels like there is a nut on the other side but I have no idea how to access it. It also looks like the dash itself should be raised up a little bit, but for right now it is level.
when I went to go and remove it the bolt itself just spins freely, and cannot be pulled out, which leads me to believe that the captured nut has broken off while still being threaded onto the bolt
if you have an impact wrench that will fit in there, try tightening it that way. If not, try putting a screwdriver under the washer to pull the nut tight against the body while you try tightening it.

My impact wrench does not fit in there, & when I tried the screwdriver method it held up a little bit but then slipped. So, I'm just going to run in a large sheet metal screw & washer. Thanks though.
Correct me if I'm wrong (my truck is buried in two feet of snow to double check!) but I think you can remove that section of black plastic duct that connects your cowl intake vents to your heater box. I think you can fit your hand to the welded nut that must've broke loose.
How long would it take to remove the cowl if you're reasonably well skilled at working on things? also how complex is it to remove? Hopefully I won't have to remove wires or anything that will take too long.

No removing of the cowl. Remove the black plastic duct that is visible in the picture.
When I went to work on it yesterday, I did remove the duct and when Felt and looked towards where the nut would be there was just a solid piece of metal. So I just drilled a new hole and put in a sheet metal screw and washer. It's probably not the best way to fix it, but it is pretty beat up anyways.
