That's beautiful. Leave them silver. A little contrast looks good. And I promise, it looks much cleaner silver than it would painted black. No matter what kind of high temperature paint you use it will fade fast from the heat if not burn off completely. The insides of the tailpipes will get dark black from carbon anyway, which will clash awfully with the black paint on the outsides.
Looks pretty sweet to me. Would really be awesome if stainless, but guess the price would be as well ..... It's probably going to be a bit loud ..... perhaps experimenting with turbo mufflers or something similar would be a thought as well ....
hi ho silver but iv heard you can pick up some high temp (engine/exhaust) paint at advanced/ autozone or any other shop that is clear (clear coat paint). might want to put couple coats of that on slow down the rust
Very interesting thread. Just bought a '95 and was thinking about opening up the exhaust. Got a set of Mustang stock shorties to throw on it(free), then likely weld up a true dual like you had done. Using mandrel bent pieces is a pretty easy way to do it at home.
I think that without mufflers it might be a bit obnoxious? Getting old enough that I don't want it really loud, but want it to sound "good".
I'd leave the pipes alone, or use SS tips to keep it looking good(if you want it silver) Personal opinion: since it's a large pipe, I'd likely paint it black to hide them. Not too much into that "BIG" pipe look. More a stealthy look.
I like the in front of the tire exit. That's what i like to do as well. Had that Gibson Super Truck cat-back on a 97 F-150, looks nice. Of course the 97's exited in front of the tire factory. After that truck I've just like that route better.
Cats only for now. Depending on how loud she is. Harold used pre-bent elbows. He doesn't bend his own but doesn't use kits either.
He's actually following this thread to see what others think.
Thanks for the reply. Very clean install & work. My only concern is that the cats are fairly far down-stream & might not get hot quick enough to avoid clogging from unburned particulate over time.
I've been thinking of a similar set up, save I'd like to use either a Dynomax dual inlet X muffler (Just to blend the sound) or some Super Trapp tip style muffs that can have diffuser disks added as needed to alter the sound.
Again, very nice work. If you have it back on a lift, could you do some straight-up shots in the eng/tranny area?
